The Tigers traveled to Red Deer to take on the Rebels for the second time this season. It would also be the start of a long weekend for the Tigers as they return home to take on the Prince George Cougars and Saskatoon Blades on Saturday and Sunday, respectively. Unfortunately for the Tigers they wouldn’t get the start to the weekend that they hoped for in Red Deer falling 2-1 to the Rebels.
The game didn’t see much scoring as both goaltenders were strong in net. Dawson MacAuley allowed only two goals on 24 shots and Bolton Pouliot earned the game’s first star limiting the Tigers to only one goal on 33 shots.
Hunter Shinkaruk opened the scoring for the Tigers with his fourth of the season midway through the first. Miles Koules picked up the assist finding Shinkaruk open in front of the net with a nice pass.
The Rebels would respond a couple of minutes later though as Conner Cleakley scored his first of the season off a drop pass from Turner Elson. Late in the second period Elson would add to his point totals with his second goal of the season. Elson’s centering pass deflected off a Tigers stick and handcuffed MacAuley in net. The goal would stand as the final giving the Rebels a 2-1 win.
Neither team had much success on the power play with the Tigers going 0 for 6 and Rebels converting on only 1 of 5 chances.
