Rebels take down Tigers 4-1
Ethan Anders saved 27 shots to help his Red Deer Rebels defeat the Medicine Hat Tigers 4-1.
The Rebels got on the scoreboard early thanks to a broken play that left the right side of the net open for Alexander Alexeyev to fire the puck in.
Despite having a strong defensive performance including Kristians Rubins clearing the puck off the line during a penalty kill, the period ended with Tigers trailing 1-0.
Rebels Austin Pratt quickly doubled the lead at the beginning of the middle frame with a backhander that went past Tigers’ netminder Jordan Hollett.
While the Orange and Black had a lot a pressure on Anders in the second period, it wasn’t until 18:14 that Captain Mark Rassell managed to put one in the back of the net. Rassell’s wrist shot beat Anders top shelf blocker side and it was assisted by Max Gerlach and Joel Craven. It would be Rassell’s 28th goal of the season and the period ended with the Tigers trailing 2-1.
Although Tigers had a fair bit of chances in the third period, they weren’t able to get another one past Anders.
Grayson Pawlenchuk scored to make it 3-1 with less than five minutes left in the game.
In an attempt to put more pressure on the Rebels, the Tabbies pulled Hollett with 18:01. Alexeyev took advantage of the empty net and scored his second goal of the night to finish the game 4-1.
Hollett made 18 saves for the Orange and Black.
The Tigers are now 17-14-2-0 and travel to Edmonton tomorrow to wrap up the first half of the season against the Oil Kings (7-22-3-0).
