Todd Pederson

The Eastern Conference Quarter Final is tied 2-2 after the Medicine Hat Tigers fell 5-2 to the Brandon Wheat Kings.

The Wheat Kings opened the scoring in the first period with a couple of goals from Daniel Bukac and Stelio Mattheos.

Midway through the second stanza, Wheat Kings forward Cole Reinhardt scored on the power play to make it a 3-0 game.

Late in that period, Josh Williams pounced on a loose puck in the high slot, spun and fired it past Wheat Kings netminder Dylan Myskiw to get the Tigers on the scoreboard. Williams’ second goal of the playoffs was assisted by Dalton Gally and David Quenneville.

Early in the final frame, Wheat Kings forward Linden McCorrister scored to extend the Wheat Kings’ lead to 4-1.

After a miscommunication between Wheat Kings players, Mark Rassell gained possession of the puck and tucked the it past Myskiw to cut the Wheat Kings lead to 2.

Despite the momentum shift in the Tabbies’ favour after Rassell’s goal, midway through the third period, GunnarWegleitner scored to secure the Wheat Kings’ victory and tie the series up at 2-2.

Tigers veteran goaltender Michael Bullion stopped 31 of the Wheat Kings’ 36 shots. Myskiw handled 38 of the Tabbies’ 40 shots.

The two hockey clubs will travel back to Medicine Hat for game five Friday night at the Canalta Centre. The game will start at 7:30 PM.
