Medicine Hat, AB — The Medicine Hat Tigers are in the midst of their Orientation Camp being held at the Family Leisure Centre this weekend, however the club announced early Saturday morning that they have signed 2016 1st Rounder and 5th Overall pick Josh Williams to a Standard WHL Agreement.
“We are thrilled to announce that Josh Williams has signed a Standard Player Agreement with our team,” said General Manager and Head Coach Shaun Clouston. “We welcome Josh and his family to our organization and look forward to working with Josh as a member of the Medicine Hat Tigers.”
Last season Williams, a 6’0 170lb forward who played with the Yale Hockey Academy Bantams, suited up in 25 games and recorded 35 goals, 24 assists for 59 points. Josh contributed another 8 points in 4 playoff games. With Josh’s high end skill, he was called up to the Elite 15 year old division, scoring another 4 points in 5 games.
Senior Director of Player Development Darren Kruger likes Josh’s power forward style game, “We believe Josh will bring a power-skilled game to our team and look forward to his success as a Tiger.”
Williams will be eligible for the 2017-18 season as a 16 year old.
The Tigers Orientation Camp continues Saturday and Sunday with 2 ice sessions starting at 3:45pm on Saturday and 9:45am on Sunday morning.
