TIGERS TAKE IT 3-1

David Zammit

he Medicine Hat, AB — The Medicine Hat Tigers took game one of their home and home series against the Swift Current Broncos 3-1.

Captain James Hamblin scored twice and picked up his 99th career WHL assist while earning the first star of the night.

Early in the second stanza while on the penalty kill, Tyler Preziuso won possession of the puck and flew down the ice. His second shot attempt was deflected off Hamblin into the net to break the stalemate.

Less than four minutes later, Corson Hopwo used his great hands to deflect Hamblin’s shot into the net. Hamblin and Linus Nässén combined on Hopwo’s third goal of the season.

The Tigers headed to the dressing room leading 2-0 after 40 minutes of play.

Midway through the final frame, Trevor Longo fired the puck on net and it was redirected by Hamblin to extend the Tabbies’ lead to 3-0. Hamblin’s 25th goal of the season was assisted by Longo and Preziuso.

Shortly after Hamblin’s second goal of the night, Bronco’s Ethan Rourke made a nice move to score and get his team on the scoresheet.

Late in the game, Bronco’s goaltender Riley Lamb left the net to give his team an extra attacker in hopes of a comeback but the Orange and Black defended well and won the game 3-1.

Jordan Hollett turned aside 23 of 24 shots faced while Lamb stopped 43 of the Tigers’ 46 shots.

Medicine Hat is now 25-16-2-2 and will return home to host the Broncos for the second game of their home and home series. The game will start at 7:30 PM and it is brought to you by the Alberta Motor Association (AMA).
