BE SMART - BE HEALTHY

The 2009-2010 Medicine Hat Tigers "Be Smart - Be Healthy" Program presented by ENCANA in conjunction with Alberta Health Services and The Alberta Sport Development Centre - Southeast (ASDC - Southeast), made several visits to area schools including: - Irvine School, AB
- Seven Persons, AB
- Ralston, AB
- Rolling Hills, AB
- Redcliff,AB
- Bow Island, AB
- Notre Dame Academy - Medicine Hat, AB
- Cape School - Medicine Hat, AB
 Tigers' players Tanner Sohn, Mark Isherwood, Wacey Hamilton, Bretton Cameron and Jace Coyle presented the program throughout the season.
In the program's 19-year history, over 15,000 students have experienced the Tigers BE SMART - BE HEALTHY program.
The program's objectives are to help educate students about the importance of leading a healthy lifestyle, help them understand the important life decisions they will need to make on a daily basis, and to influence them to set goals and be actively involved in extra-curricular activities.
The topics that will be covered during the assembly are: - The importance of setting goals for yourself (short- and long-term)
- Achieving your goals
- Maintaining a healthy lifestyle (includes no tobacco, drugs or alcohol)
- Maintaining proper nutrition and keeping your body fit by exercising
- The importance of balancing school work with extra-curricular activities (work before play)
- Maintaining a positive attitude and good work ethic.
BE SMART - BE HEALTHY PROGRAM: Albert Health Services, the Medicine Hat Tigers Hockey Club and the Alberta Sport Development Centre - SouthEast are all key players in the community based Stay Healthy / Stay Smart Program. The "BE SMART - BE HEALTHY" presentation includes both an interactive presentation and a game of floor hockey or physical activity. Staff and students have an opportunity to ask questions and receive Tigers autographs. The Alberta Sport Development Centre - Southeast (ASDC - Southeast) - a member of the Alberta Sport Development Network. The mission of the ASDC - Southeast is to: - EDUCATE athletes, coaches and parents through the provision of programs and services;
- ACT as a catalyst to link elite athletes to the necessary resources required to reach the next competition level;
- PROVIDE leadership to the community through local and provincial networks.
