TIGERS FALL 6-3

Medicine Hat, AB – The Medicine Hat Tigers opened their home and home series against the Lethbridge Hurricanes by falling 6-3.

Baxter Anderson played in his 100th career WHL game tonight while rookie forward Corson Hopwo had the first two-goal game of his career.

Early in the game, Hopwo redirected a shot from Hayden Ostir that was set up by Logan Christensen to score his first of the night.

Shortly after Hopwo’s first goal of the night, Ryan Chyzowski scored on the power play to give the Tigers a 2-0 lead. Chyzowski’s 20th goal of the season was assisted by Elijah Brown and Brett Kemp.

Midway through the first period, the Hurricanes rallied and scored twice to tie up the game. Jake Elmer got Lethbridge on the scoresheet before Logan Barlage scored the game-tying goal.

The Hurricanes came out hungry in the second stanza and Jake Leschyshyn scored to take the lead for the home team. Midway through the frame, Taylor Ross made it a 4-2 hockey game for Lethbridge.

Late in the period, Hopwo scored his second of the night and fifth of the season by forcing a turnover and deflecting the puck into the net from the corner to the right of Hurricanes’ netminder Carl Tetachuk.

In the final frame, Jordy Bellerive scored twice to ensure the 6-3 defeat of the Tigers. Bellerive’s second goal of the night was scored on the empty net.

Rookie goaltender Mads Søgaard stopped 34 of 39 shots faced while Tetachuk turned aside 31 of the Tigers’ 34 shots.

The Orange and Black are now 31-22-3-2 and will host the Hurricanes Saturday night at the Canalta Centre for a rematch. The game is brought to you by the Home Depot and the puck will drop at 7:30 PM.
