BOEHM LIFTS TIGERS OVER BRONCOS IN 5-4 SHOOTOUT WIN

Ed Fonger / Swift Current Broncos

Swift Current, SK –

In the first period it was special teams that was the difference as the Tigers on their first penalty kill of the period would score to make 1-0 thanks to Shane Smith (Cessford, AB) gets his 14th of the season and 2nd shorthanded goal of the year from Hunter St. Martin at 4:07. But on another Broncos power play, Josh Filmon made it 1-1 beating Beckett Langkow (Vegreville, AB) on a net front scramble for his 7th power play goal of the campaign for Swift Current.

Off to the second period where the Broncos would take their first lead of the night thanks to Josh Fluker’s 1st WHL goal at 8:47 but the Tigers rallied in a big way as Brayden Boehm (Nanaimo, BC) scores his 17th on a Tiger power play after Langkow robbed Caleb Wyrostok on a shorthanded break. Shane Smith & Andrew Basha (Calgary, AB) draw assists, then it was Bogdans Hodass (Jelgava, LAT) who would score two straight at 13:30 and with 1:30 left in the second to make 4-2 Tigers heading to the third. Reid Andresen (Saskatoon, SK) & Cayden Lindstrom drawing assists on those goals to give the Tigers some cushion heading to the third.

But the Broncos wouldn’t go away as Filmon gets his second of the night just 3:47 into the final frame from Matthew Ward and Clarke Caswell. That followed by a series of penalties to the Tigers including a double minor and the Broncos would counter as Connor Hvidston would re-direct his 9th of the year past Langkow to force overtime Wednesday night.

In overtime the Tigers would get a late power play but couldn’t solve Joey Rocha and we’d go to the shootout for the 2nd time this season for Medicine Hat. Andrew Basha would open the scoring, while Broncos would score thanks to Josh Davies & Caleb Wyrostok. But Tomas Mrsic forced an additional round of shooters before Brayden Boehm would finish things off in round six beating Rocha far side on the glove to seal their first win of the season series against Swift Current.

Tigers would outshoot the Broncos 32-27, Medicine Hat goes 1/6 on the power play and 3/5 on the penalty kill. Next up for the Orange & Black is a pair of home games starting Saturday night against the Calgary Hitmen. Get your tickets HERE. Puckdrop goes at 7 PM.
