The Story Coming In

The Medicine Hat Tigers had a strong third period performance and came back from a 2-1 deficit to defeat the Portland Winterhawks 4-2 on Tuesday night at the Canalta Centre. Veteran forwards James Hamblin and Brett Kemp each had a two point (1G, 1A) night. After tonight’s contest, the Tigers will host the Red Deer Rebels on Saturday and the Saskatoon Blades on Tuesday before hitting the road for nine straight games.

Tigers vs. ICE

With the relocation of the Kootenay ICE to Winnipeg, these two former Central Division rivals will only meet four times this season. The last time the ICE and the Tigers met was March 15, 2019, and when the Tigers won 5-2 including an empty net goal. Ryan Chyzowski and Brett Kemp both had two points (1G, 1A) in the game while ICE goaltender Jesse Makaj stopped 51 out of 55 shots faced. Medicine Hat is 18-2-0-0 against the ICE over the past five years.

View from Winnipeg

The Winnipeg ICE fell 4-0 to the Vancouver Giants in their last game on Saturday. The ICE are 3-3-1-0 to start their season and they are led by 2019 CHL Import Draft pick Michal Teply with 7 points (4G, 3A) in 7 games played. After tonight’s game, the ICE will travel to Swift Current to take on the Bronocs before returning home to the Wayne Fleming Arena to battle the Saskatoon Blades Saturday, Oct 19th and Sunday, Oct 20th.

Tigers Talent

Parker Gavlas is a physical puck moving defenceman in his first season with the Orange and Black. The 20-year-old Saskatoon, SK native is a hard nosed, two-way defenceman that can create offense with his speed. Gavlas has a great work ethic and he has developed a good partnership with Trevor Longo. Look for Gavlas to make an impact in both ends of the ice tonight.

Captain’s Corner

Captain James Hamblin is the Tigers top point producer with 9 points (4G, 5A) in 8 games played so far this season. Last year the 20-year-old Edmonton native also led the team in points with 77 points (33G, 44A) in 67 games played. Hamblin is a speedy, skilled two-way forward who leads the Tigers with tenacity and hard work.
