Kristians Rubins scored the game winning goal in overtime against the Edmonton Oil Kings to snap the Tigers’ four game losing streak.
After the Oil Kings came back from a 3-1 deficit to tie the game up and send it into overtime, Rubins scored his 3rd game winning goal of the season to seal the Tigers’ victory 4-3.
The Oil Kings had a lot of offensive pressure in the first period of the game which paid off when their captain, Colton Kehler found the back of the net during a power play in the final five minutes of the frame. The period ended with the home team leading 1-0.
On a power play halfway through the middle frame, Ryan Jevne fired in a bullet to tie game at 1. David Quenneville and Ryan Chyzowski picked up the assists.
Near the end of the middle frame, Dalton Gally fired in a wrist shot that changed direction off an Oil King player and beat the Oil Kings goaltender Josh Dechaine to give the Tabbies the lead. James Hamblin and Cole Clayton assisted on the play that led to Gally’s first goal of this season.
Eleven seconds later on a play from Baxter Anderson from behind the net, Josh Williams extended the lead for the Orange and Black with a wrist shot that beat Dechaine short side.
In the last half of the final frame, David Kope pounced on the loose puck in front of the net and fired it in past Hollett to cut the Tabbies’ lead to 1.
Less than three minutes later, Tomas Soustal tied the game up at 3 and his goal sent the game into overtime.
Rubins’ overtime goal was his 5th goal of the season and Jevne and Chyzowski picked up the assists on the play.
Hollett made 27 saves on 30 shots while Dechaine turned aside 36 of the Tabbies’ 40 shots.
