TIGERS DROP OVERTIME MATINEE TO BRONCOS

Medicine Hat, AB – For the third time in five games the Swift Current Broncos and Medicine Hat Tigers would require overtime to solve their differences at Co-op Place Sunday afternoon, with the Broncos sneaking away with a 4-3 win.
In the opening period the Tigers tried to take advantage of three straight power plays including a 5 on 3 but couldn’t solve Broncos goaltender Joey Rocha, but Pasha Bocharov (Escondido, CA) scores his 9th of the season and second straight game on forward at 12:30 from Oasiz Wiesblatt (Calgary, AB) & Andrew Basha (Calgary, AB) giving the Tigers their first lead of the afternoon. But the Broncos would get a power play of their of own and Josh Filmon makes quick work to beat Tigers starter Beckett Langkow (Vegreville, AB) for his 30th of the campaign drawing the Broncos even at 1-1 at 15:21. The Tigers would outshoot the Broncos for a 1st period high of 17 shots to five.
In the middle frame the Tigers took the lead once again less than five minutes in as Dallon Melin (Czar, AB) continued his excellence in the month of January with his 12th of the season from his line mates Cayden Lindstrom (Chetwynd, BC) & Hunter St. Martin (Edmonton, AB). But the Tigers weren’t done as late in the period as Oasiz Wiesblatt is able to set-up Andrew Basha for his 10th of the season to increase the lead to 3-1. Dru Krebs (Okotoks, AB) would add a secondary assist.
The Tigers would look to close out the 3rd up by two but the Broncos wouldn’t lay down as the Owen Pickering would notch his 6th of the season at 7:44 to make it 3-2 and then a Connor Hvidston shot takes an unfortunate bounce off the back of a Tiger defender beating Langkow to force overtime at 17:36.
In the extra frame it would be the Broncos completing the comeback as Josh Davies beats Langkow on a two on one just 1:29 into overtime to win it for Swift Current 4-3.
Despite the loss the Tigers had a 3-0-1 week getting 7 out of a possible 8 points to keep themselves in the hunt for a playoff spot in the Eastern Conference, now with an 18-21-6-1 record and will turn their attention to the Moose Jaw Warriors on Saturday, January 28 at the Moose Jaw Events Centre. You can follow the Tigers on WILD 94.5 with Gino De Paoli starting with the Pre-Game Show at 5:45 MT/ST.
