TIGERS NAME AWARD WINNERS FOR 2022-23 SEASON

Medicine Hat, AB – The Medicine Hat Tigers are proud to announce this year’s recipients of our team awards after an incredible season that saw vast improvements on the ice making the playoffs with a 30-29-8-1 record and seeing plenty of growth and enthusiasm for seasons to come.

And the winners are…

Playoff MVP

Andrew Basha

The second-year forward led the Tigers in both goals and points during the team’s first round series against the Winnipeg ICE, going a point-per-game with three goals and one assist in four games.

Most Valuable Player

Dru Krebs

The Washington Capitals prospect came back to the Tigers and never missed a game, leading all Tigers defencemen in point, while owning one of the best plus/minus on the team playing all situations.

Gerard Moyer Leadership Award

Owen MacNeil & Dallon Melin

Two members of the Tigers leadership group are the recipients of year’s Gerard Moyer Team Leadership award. Captain Owen MacNeil and alternate captain Dallon Melin were consummate professionals throughout the season, leading by example through their work ethic and determination on and off the ice. Whether it was for standing up for teammates, blocking a shot or scoring a goal, Owen and Dallon did whatever was of asked of them to help their team succeed.

Unsung Hero

Rhett Parsons & Reid Andresen

This year the Tigers had two players that went above and beyondto help the squad earn a win. Parsons and Andresen were asked to play big roles on the Tigers d-core season.

Rookie of the Year

Cayden Lindstrom

Chetwynd B.C.’s Cayden Lindstrom made an immediate impact to the team and rose to the top of the pack. The 16 year old forward lead all rookies in points, represented Canada at the World U17 Championships and was name a finalist for the WHL Rookie of the Year Award.

Most Improved Player Award

Tomas Mrsic & Andrew Basha

In their first full seasons with the team Tomas Mrsic and Andrew Basha took major steps to becoming top flight players in the Western Hockey League, contributing offensively at key times over the course of the season and becoming crucial members of the Tigers power play. Basha finished with 56 points while Mrsic had 22 points, while also suiting up for Canada at the World U17’s.

Scholastic Player of the Year

Hunter St. Martin

Trying to be the best on the ice while taking for scholastic studies seriously is no easy feat, but Tigers forward Hunter St. Martin was able to just that this season between practices, work outs, games, road-trips and community events. St. Martin was able to put equal emphasis on his studies.

Community Service Award

Dallon Melin & Brayden Boehm

The Medicine Hat Tigers were very active in the community attending a number of school and community events including reading to kids, floor hockey and even judging a science fair this season. Whenever possible these two members of the Tigers made themselves readily available to the public and exemplified what it means to be a Medicine Hat Tiger.

Hardest Working Player

Tyler MacKenzie

For the second consecutive season, Tyler MacKenzie has been named the team’s hardest working player and it was academic when he was on the ice whether on the forecheck or his hustle on the backcheck you can always count on Tyler to give it his all and that’s for a second straight year, the Hardest Working honour belongs to him.

Top Defensive Forward

Hunter St. Martin

Hunter St. Martin picks up his second award of the 2022-23 season being an asset at both ends of the ice, being the thorn in the side of his opponents he was defending on 5 on 5 and on the penalty kill.

Best Defenceman

Dru Krebs & Bogdans Hodass

The honour of best defenceman is shared by two members of the Tigers, Team MVP Dru Krebs and Latvian defender and two time world junior Bogdans Hodass take home the hardware as both players logged Top 4 minutes all seasons and played in all situations. Both set career highs in points and were impact players in the defensive zone.

Three Stars Award

Beckett Langkow

The three stars are awarded after each game to the players who were deemed to have the biggest impact on that night’s game. This year’s award winner is no exception. Goaltender Beckett Langkow was this year’s leader in the number of times he was named a star as he set career highs in games plaed, wins, minutes played and earned his first Western Hockey League shutout on March 11th against the Regina Pats.

Top Goal Scorer

Brenden Lee

Brenden set a single season high of 32 goals this campaign along with 12 goals on the power play including several with his patented one-timer release from the right circle.

Leading Scorer

Oasiz Wiesblatt 

Playing in all 68 games in the regular season for the Tigers, Oasiz Wiesblatt contributed 26 goals and 34 assists for 60 points. Wiesblatt scored 11 power play goals and two game winning goals this past campaign with the Tigers.
