When it comes to defence, last year’s growing pains could equal this year’s gains for the Medicine Hat Tigers.
Last season, the Tigers went with a fairly inexperienced group on the back end. Out of that group, Tyler Lewington, Spenser Jensen and Ty Stanton were all listed in the NHL Central Scouting rankings, and Lewington was selected by the Washington Capitals in the NHL Entry Draft in June.
Lewington made it to Capitals main camp. Jensen, Stanton and Kyle Becker all attended rookie camps with the San Jose Sharks, Winnipeg Jets and Anaheim Ducks respectively.
Tigers associate coach Darren Kruger, who was once a WHL rearguard with the Swift Current Broncos, is pleased with the core group the team can build around for the current campaign.
“All four of them have gone to NHL camps,” said Kruger. “That is just a great experience for them both from an individual and a team perspective there.”
