This is the first of six meetings between the Medicine Hat Tigers and Red Deer Rebels. Last season, Medicine Hat has posted a (5-1-0-0) record versus the Rebels (3-0-0-0 at home and 2-1-0-0 in Red Deer) with the Tigers outscoring the Rebels 23-11 and outshooting Red Deer 219-200. Leading the way for the Tigers was forward Tristan King (2G, 7A) with nine points and has since moved onto the Dallas Stars (NHL) organization, while, Emerson Etem (6G, 2A) chipped in eight points. Goaltender Tyler Bunz (5-1-0-0) allowed 11 goals (1.79 G.A.A.) on 200 shots (.945 Save %). The Tigers were 7 for 24 on the power play (29.2%), while killing off 17 of 20 Red Deer power plays (85.0%). The Rebels and Tigers last meet again Saturday night in Red Deer.
Vs CENTRAL DIVISION: Last season, Medicine Hat posted a record of 21-7-2-2 in 32 games versus Central Division opponents. So far this season, the Tigers are 0-1-0-0.
LAST GAME: Despite outshooting Lethbridge, the Tigers were defeated by the Hurricanes 3-1 at The Arena. Scoring the Tigers lone goal was forward Wacey Hamilton – a shorthanded goal, while goaltender Tyler Bunz (0-1-0-0) stopped 16 of 19 shots in the loss.
2010 WHL Preseason – Medicine Hat went 4-1-0-1 in six preseason games. Leading the team in scoring was forward Hunter Shinkaruk (94) and Curtis Valk (93), each with two goals and two assists.
NHL CAMP RETURNEE – The Tigers welcomed back 20-year-old forward Jace Coyle, who attended camp with the Dallas Stars (NHL). The Cranbrook, BC native signed a three-year entry level contract with Dallas earlier in the year. With Coyle’s return, the Tigers now have four 20-year-old’s on the roster and have until October 14, 2010 to reduce that number to three.
