This is the first of six meetings between the Calgary Hitmen and the Medicine Hat Tigers this season. Last season, Medicine Hat posted a (2-2-0-2) record versus the Hitmen (1-1-0-1 at home) and (1-1-0-1 in Calgary) with the Hitmen outscoring the Tigers 23-19 despite being outshot by Medicine Hat 184-172. The Tigers were led by Emerson Etem (5G, 2A) with seven points, while Kale Kessy chipped in three goals against Calgary. Goaltender Tyler Bunz was 2-2-0-1 allowing 15 goals (2.92 – G.A.A) on 137 shots (.891 – Save %). On the power play, the Tigers were 5 for 32 (15.6%), while killing off 22 of 31 Calgary power plays (71.0%). Calgary also defeated the Tigers 4-2 in a best-of-seven series in the 2nd round of the 2010 WHL Playoffs.

NOTES: Last season marked the 8th straight season the Medicine Hat Tigers qualified for the WHL Playoffs. 20-year-old Joey Frazer has stepped aside from playing, accepting an Assistant Coach position with the club. Tigers goaltender Deven Dubyk was the WHL nominee for CHL goaltender of the week after posting a 2-0-0-0 record this past week, stopping 67 of 69 shots faced for a 1.000 goals-against average and 0.971 save percentage. Dubyk, a native of Minitonas, MB, back-stopped the Tigers to a pair of wins over the Red Deer Rebels; 2-1 in Medicine Hat on Friday and 4-1 in Red Deer on Saturday.
