GAME 41: TIGERS @ KAMLOOPS BLAZERS

@ Kamloops BlazersThis is the first of two meetings between the Kamloops Blazers and the Medicine Hat Tigers this season. Last season the Tigers and Blazers split the series with each team winning one game. The game will feature the league’s top two scorers in Brendan Ranford (30G, 36A) and Linden Vey (26G, 39A).  

VS BC DIVISION: So far this season, the Tigers are 2-2-0-0.

LAST GAME: The Tigers finished their home and home series with the Swift Current Broncos with a 7-1 win. Reid Petryk, Ryan Harrison, Linden Vey, Emerson Etem and Cole Grbavac each scored a goal and Dylan Busenius added a pair for the Tigers.Goaltender Tyler Bunz (19-8-2-0) stopped 20 of 21 shots for the win. 

2010-11 WHL RANKINGS: Record (26-12-2-0). Central Div. – 3rd. Eastern Con. – 4th. HOME (14-5-1-0). AWAY (12-7-1-0).

RETURNING TO ACTION:  Hunter Shinkaruk (TEAM PACIFIC – U-17) and Emerson Etem (TEAM USA – WJC) have returned to the Tigers after each winning a bronze medal in their respective tournaments. In addition to his medal, Shinkaruk was also named to the tournament all-star team.

TRADE DEADLINE: The Tigers were active on Monday’s trade deadline dealing Ryan Harrison and a 2nd round draft pick in the 2011 Bantam Draft to the Everett Silvertips for forward Kellan Tochkin and defenceman Alex Theriau. Kellan is a highly skilled forward who has  36 points (17G, 19A) in 38 games this season. Alex, a Dallas Stars draft pick (2010 – 4th Round), is an excellent all around defenceman who can move the puck. In 37 games this year he has 7 assists and 27 penalty minutes.

CANADA GAMES: Three Medicine Hat Tigers recent draft picks will participate in the upcoming 2011 Canada Games in Halifax. Cole Sanford (BC U-16), Gavin Broadhead (NWT U-16) and Spencer Jensen (AB U-16) will all participate at the event taking place Feb. 11-27, 2011.

MILESTONES: Linden Vey recently scored his 80th career goal and also surpassed Lanny McDonald (141 assists) for 20th all-time on the Tigers career assist leaders by recording his 142nd career assist. Goaltender Tyler Bunz recently recorded his 58th career win with the Tigers, one more than former Tigers netminder Chris Osgood (57). Matt Keetley holds the record for franchise wins with 105. 

TIGERS ROSTER MAKEUP: The Tigers currently have 24 players on the roster – 2 Goaltenders, 9 Defenceman and 13 forwards, including 7 rookies.

AGE BREAKDOWN: 3 – 20 year olds, 8 – 19 year olds, 6 – 18 year olds, 6 – 17 year olds, and 1 – 16 year old.
