Medicine Hat Tigers forward Trent Oullette opened the scoring Tuesday night on a wraparound 2:40 into the game as the Medicine Hat Tigers earned another preseason win, this time by downing the Calgary Hitmen 3-1.
Hunter Shinkaruk also tallied a marker, while Joey Frazer potted an empty-netter to seal the contest.
Calgary earned it’s lone goal on a bizarre play at the 12:07 mark of the 1st period when Rob Trzonkowski’s shot hit something next to the net and beat Tigers netminder Deven Dubyk.
Justin Kirsch nearly put the Hitmen on top but clanked a wrister off the crossbar and out of the rink early in the middle frame.
Shortly after, Tigers 16-year-old and 1st round Bantam Draft pick Hunter Shinkaruk scored on a nice play.
With the teams playing four aside, the Calgary product picked up his own rebound and found a spot over Hitmen goalie Michael Snider’s glove. Snider stopped 28 shots in the loss as he retained his presumptive hold on the starter’s job, and was particularly sharp during a four-minute penalty-kill in the third period, when he made a number of big stops.
Joey Frazer’s unassisted empty-netter rounded out the scoring.
