It’s early, but Daniel Wapple is batting a thousand for the Medicine Hat Tigers.
Since being acquired in a trade with the Moose Jaw Warriors shortly before the regular season began, Wapple has won both his starts in goal for the Tigers. The latest was a 34-save beauty in a 3-1 victory over the Swift Current Broncos on Saturday night at The Arena.
The Tigers built a 3-0 lead going into the second intermission, but the Broncos closed to within 3-1 early in the third thanks to a power-play goal from centre Graham Black. Black tipped in a point shot from defenceman Dillon Heatherington to account for the only puck that beat Wapple on the night.
From there, the 18-year-old Saskatoon product slammed the door on the Broncos, who applied piles of pressure. Wapple made 15 saves in the third to seal the win.
“It feels good considering the situation I was in,” said Wapple. “Coming in with a fresh start and then getting two wins is pretty special to say the least.
“It is nice, when you have a team that scores lots of goals and helps you out defensively. I can’t thank them enough.”
